What is the Process?
The 2020 Census is EASY.
The U.S. Census asks just 10 questions and takes 10 minutes to respond. By April 1, 2020, households should receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. You’ll then have three options for responding: online, by mail, or by phone.
Online
Respond online using the Internet or a smartphone
On the Phone
Respond over the telephone by calling the census call center listed on the census card
By Paper
You can fill out a PAPER CENSUS QUESTIONNAIRE in English or Spanish.
If you do not receive a U.S. Census postcard in the mail with your unique I.D. number, you can still self-respond to the census questionnaire. In May of 2020, the Census Bureau will begin following up with households that have not responded.
The 2020 Census is CONVENIENT.
For the first time, we will be able to complete the U.S. Census questionnaire form online, beginning March 12, 2020.
As noted above, you can conveniently complete the form online, over the phone in addition to using a paper form at a time that works best for you.

The 2020 Census is SAFE.
The U.S. Census Bureau has a legal commitment to keep census responses confidential. The U.S. Census Bureau is required to protect your answers, and all employees take a lifetime oath to protect your information. It’s against the law for them to publicly release your responses in any way that could identify you or your household.
The U.S. Census Bureau will NEVER share information with immigration enforcement agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), law enforcement agencies like the county sheriff, local police, or the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), or allow this information to be used to determine eligibility for governmental benefits.

What if English is not my First Language?
The online form and telephone line will be available in 13 languages, including English. Language guides will be available in 59 languages other than English.
Additionally, the Statewide Complete Count Commission has eight Tribal language audio recordings that can be downloaded to your phone or tablet to assist in filling out the form or before heading out to your community to encourage others to fill it out.
A description of the Census process is available in Spanish and six Asian languages and can be posted at locally owned restaurants, local grocery stores, places of worship, and businesses.
Important Dates
Mostly importantly, encourage your community to respond to the census online beginning March 12, 2020.
